29 January 2011

This morning at the funeral home we had a briefing to cover the route we would take to the church and then to the cemetery.  It was given by a police chief of one of several towns we were driving through.  There were a few officers from each town and also a county sheriff and state highway patrol officer and the PGR.

At the end of the brief the chief looked at us and told everyone that he just wanted to give us a special thanks because it was a PGR e-mail that first informed him of the Major's passing and gave him the heads up.. Not a phone call, a coworker, or the evening news.  I'm guessing that he is subscribed to the Ohio mission links thread and got it from there, since there wouldn't be an OH statewide sent until it was confirmed. The watch list thread link gets posted in the Ohio forum (and sent to subscribers) as soon as possible by me or one other member after the Watch List thread is posted.

This is one example of the chain of communications that you all either help to start or maintain.  Although the mods didn't personally notify the police chief, they started the chain by posting the Watch List thread.  An Ohio member posted the link in the Ohio thread and the police chief received his e-mail.  All before it was reported on the local news.

Part of the fundamental strength of the PGR is communications and teamwork. We know what we do is important and helps to support the mission at the local level. We just usually don't get feedback to know just how we helped.  This time we did.

Thank you for everything you do and well done to all.

Note: Ralph Bago was the assigned Ride Captain , thank you Ralph for all of the hard work and planning you do to ensure our Fallen, Honor Dignity and Respect

Gentlemen,

Thank you for providing escort service for my cousin Brad today.  I am currently deployed overseas with the USAF, so I will not be able to attend the service.  My parents will be driving down from Michigan to attend.  I cannot emphasis my gratitude for what you are doing to ensure Brad receives a dignified ceremony today.  Thank you for all that you do for each and every one of our fallen warriors….and especially today for what you are doing for my family.

Pete,

I am writing this letter to you and all the members of the Patriot Guard Riders that showed up and supported my father SFC (retired) Raymond Scott. My Mother, sister and I want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for everything that you all had done by coming out to Ware funeral Home. We all appreciate it very much by showing your support and escorting Dad to Londonderry Cemetery. Even though it was cold and had snow on ground you all showed support by having the colors posted and by riding the bikes as escorts as cold as it was. If you could pass the word on to the following PGR if you know them. Since they came from all over in OH and in KY. The family really did appreciate all your support even though none of you knew my father SFC (retired) Raymond Scott and came out to show your respect on December 29th.

Mike,

I know it has been a few weeks since our paths crossed for the first time but I still am so appreciative of all 'you' and the Patriot Guard Riders did and were able to do for the Pyeatt Family.  At what is I'm sure the most difficult time in their lives, it seemed that everyone was able and willing to contribute time and effort for a fallen solider.

Thank you for all that was done before, during and after!

Sincerely,

Jack Mueller
