Heidi,

Well you should have been there!  It was a wonderful, tearful event.

The site of the Ohio Patriot Guard standing at attention between the American flags was what REAL AMERICA is all about.  Americans appreciating the sacrafices and bravery is takes to keep America FREE.

It was so great of Congressman Driehaus to do the honors of presenting Joey with a Proclamation and a flag that has flown over the Capitol Building.  Not only was he there, but it was so gracious of his wife and children to attend.

It started out (remember the Patriots were in the background with the flags) with a family member saying a prayer, then the only female family member who served in the military presented Joey with a Declaration from The American Legion of Cleves - it contained a very inspiring message and then the Congressman did his part - acknowledging the outstanding service of Joey and all others current and past -  culminating with his presentation.
GREAT DAY !!

Thank you and any other staff members for helping making this possible.

If you have not witnessed an event graced by the Ohio Patriot Guard - try to do so.  They are an extraordinary group of people -- just extraordinary !!

Lon Scheffel

PS. - Please give a copy of this to Congressman Driehaus with much appreciation from Joey Blankenship's family and friends.

PPS  -  On the way home, my husband said "well it couldn't have been better" - so I said "well, maybe a "fly-over" !!

Subject: Escort for Spc Justin Snider

I don't normally take this long to send out a Thank You. I want to say how much my son, myself, family & friends appreciated the escort that was given my son from home to his Welcome Home Celebration @ the VFW Post 1079 in Elyria, Ohio on the 24th of July, 2010. It was an honor that my husband was permitted to ride with the best to show his appreciation for what my son endured for the past year. Meeting & speaking with you gives us a warm feeling knowing how much our men mean to all of you even though you don't know them. I'm glad this was able to happen on a happy note. We were not able to be in Ft. Lewis when my son got off the plane to greet him & pay his unit with the respect they so well deserved. Being able to make his evening a special one & the PGR helped us pull this off has meant more to us than our words can ever say....you are very special people & have touched our lives in a way that will never be forgotten.

God Bless all of you & God Bless our Troops.

Sincerely Dawn & Joe Woodings
Spc Justin M Snider
